I Hate Fun: Sudoku uses the device camera to capture the problem, analyses it to find the numbers, solves the problem, then puts the answer back into the same image; no more messing around with writing materials or mental energy. Details for the technically inclined (or merely curious):
This application uses a number of techniques to extract and solve the problem.
Some pretty standard computer vision techniques are used for image clean-up, simply grey-scaling before performing a local threshold. These operations are RenderScript accelerated, which on my test devices offers a near ten-fold increase in performance.
Grid detection is performed using corner-detection, then box-detection.
A projective transformation creates a normalized problem grid, which is sliced into cells for analysis.
OCR is performed using a pre-trained Neural Network.
The actual Sudoku solving is done using a variant of Peter Norvig's search algorithm.
A reverse of the original projective transform projects the grid back into the image, which provides the AR feel.
